Hope this helps I also found this nasty glitch but luckily for me my Dell Latitude D had a wireless driver that was compatible so I did like you said and sure enough that driver did the trick now I am back on Ethernet.

I instlled it from Device Manager -Browser my computer for driver- Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. So I grabbed my old netxtrems, did some research and downloaded a few new drivers, put them on my usb stick and copied them to my PC, did what I had to do I really don't know how to explain it in English haha, im so sorry!
